Pests of the Farm - With Instructions for Their Extirpation - Being Manual of Plain Directions for the Certain Destruction of Every Description of Ver: H. D. Richardson
Writing this book is quite possibly the most selfish thing I have ever done. After living the first 30 years of my life as a prisoner of circumstance - blaming everyone and everything around me for my hopelessness, my anger, my stress and even my obesity; waiting to finally get a ´´break´´ and confidently proclaiming that my victim personality was permanent and ´´ just the way I am´´ (I´m sure none of you reading this can relate) - I finally discovered the simple and powerful distinction that helped me transition from a helpless, exhausted, overwhelmed, and overcommitted prisoner to a creative, conscious, and courageous self-leader. While it´s true that as a speaker, trainer, and coach, I could tell you I wrote Prison Break because I was so passionate about sharing with you what I know has been the most pivotal piece of my personal transformation, it´s only half of the self-serving story. I also wrote it because it is the book I needed to read (and will no doubt refer to for the rest of my life for a gentle reminder...or 40) to help me see through the lies, myths, and fundamental misunderstandings I held for so long about how the world worked. (Spoiler: It never seemed to ´´work´´ for me until I developed this new understanding; these new tools.) What you will find in this book is not an instruction manual but rather a destruction manual - breaking down the self-imposed walls and barriers that I worked so tirelessly to erect over the first few decades of my life and that I have seen affect so many of the thousands of people I have met, trained, and coached. 1. At the core of this ancient strategy manual is the understanding that conflict is an inescapable part of human life. Since, as Sun Tzu teaches, aggression and response in kind can lead only to destruction, we must learn to work with conflict in a more profound and effective way. Crucial to this strategic vision is knowledge - especially self-knowledge - and a view of the whole that seeks to bring conflicting views into a larger perspective. The Denma Translation Group´s presentation of The Art of War is a meticulously faithful version that carefully preserves the enigmatic quality of the original - allowing us to discover innumerable insights in its lines millennia after this oral tradition was first set down. Line-by-line commentary reveals the broader implications of Sun Tzu´s teachings and how they can be applied to everyday circumstances. An abridged audio recording of the book The Art of War (Shambhala Publishing, 2002), Shambhala Lion Editions. There’s a terrifying truth facing today’s men, and it’s caught many off guard. But once that first overwhelming challenge hits, the reality about evil becomes clear: Every one of us is in a fight for our lives. The enemy is real–and so is the danger. But powerful forces convince us to ignore the spiritual war surrounding us. And that willing surrender ensures the total destruction of all we hold dear. But a new generation of God’s men is beginning to engage with the tools and training to take the fight to the enemy and respond with boldness and duty. This book is the manual for recognizing the deceptions about doing true spiritual battle, realizing the roles men play at the front lines, and rescuing the captives from the enemy’s stronghold. 1. All the science in Breaking Bad - from explosive experiments to acid-based evidence destruction - explained and analyzed for authenticity.Breaking Bad´s antihero Walter White (played by Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston) is a scientist, a high school chemistry teacher who displays a plaque that recognizes his ´´contributions to research awarded the Nobel Prize.´´ During the course of five seasons, Walt practices a lot of ad hoc chemistry - from experiments that explode to acid-based evidence destruction to an amazing repertoire of methodologies for illicit meth making. But how much of Walt´s science is actually scientific? In The Science of Breaking Bad, Dave Trumbore and Donna Nelson explain, analyze, and evaluate the show´s portrayal of science, from the pilot´s opening credits to the final moments of the series finale. The intent is not, of course, to provide a how-to manual for wannabe meth moguls but to decode the show´s most head-turning, jaw-dropping moments. Trumbore, a science and entertainment writer, and Nelson, a professor of chemistry and Breaking Bad´s science advisor, are the perfect scientific tour guides. 1. Language: English. In Prophets, Gurus, and Pundits, author Anna M. Young proposes that the difficulty of bridging the gap between intellectuals and the public is not a failure of ideas; rather, it is an issue of rhetorical strategy. By laying a rhetorical foundation and presenting analytical case studies of contemporary ´´public intellectuals,´´ Young creates a training manual for intellectuals who seek to connect with a public audience and effect change writ large. Young begins by defining key aspects of rhetorical style before moving on to discuss the specific ways in which intellectuals may present ideas to a general audience in order to tackle large-scale social problems. Next, she defines the ways in which five crucial turning points in our nation - the rise of religious fundamentalism, a growing lack of trust in our institutions, the continued destruction of the environment, the ubiquity of media and information in our daily lives, and the decline of evidence-based reasoning, have set the stage for opportunities in the current public-intellectual dialogue. Via case studies of such well-known personalities as Deepak Chopra and Professor Cornel West, Young goes on to reveal the types of public intellectuals who achieve success 1. Language: English.
